Bespoke Design
Potential customers make a decision about your website within seconds of visiting your site and your design is essential to create the right first impression.

Keyword Product Search
Customer Product Ratings or Reviews
This is an optional feature that can be included if required on Standard or Pro packages. It is worth considering whether the website would benefit from this feature as a website with a rating system but no ratings can give the impression of an underused or unpopular website.

A well used rating feature can provide your customers with additional information on your products and add unlimited user-generated content to your website.
AJAX enabled basket
AJAX allows information to be passed from one area on the page to another without the page having to reload. This means that when the customer adds an item to their basket it automatically shows in the basket immediately. Using this technology on a website ensures that your customer is never confused as to whether a product has been successfully added to their order and both the speed and ease of use of the site is increased. If your design does not have space for a full basket, a ‘mini basket’ is included that automatically updates the number of items in the basket and the total basket value.


Best Sellers Lists
Best seller lists can either show top-selling products based on actual website sales or be set manually through TVI Commerce
Downloadable Products
A website can either be set to sell physical products, downloadable products or for both. For downloadable products no postage is charged and, once payment has been made, the customer can log in to their account on the website and download the product through a URL.

For added security these URL’s are time sensitive and will be removed after a set time period (agreed during the build process). This is to prevent the URL, and therefore the download, being distributed by the customer.

Please note that this system does not include any Digital Rights Management (DRM) software – this can be quoted for separately if required.
Advanced product search by field
The advanced search feature is two-fold; initially it allows the ability to add in additional fields for groups of products through TVI Content
For example, if the products being sold on the site were electronics a group could be set up for TV’s. For this group, additional fields for screen size, screen type and contrast ratio could be set.

Once this information was set within TVI Content the front end of the website would then also allow the customers to search for information within those fields for all TV’s (in addition to the standard keyword search)
Product comparison tools
A product comparison system is usually set up in conjunction with the Advanced product search by field and allows customer to choose multiple products to view at the same time.

A good example of this feature can be seen on our mobile phone comparison site, ND Mobiles
To add another phone to compare, complete the 2nd and 3rd columns and browse downwards to compare the relative statistics.
Multiple currencies
Ecommerce websites can be configured to show multiple currencies. The exact structure will depend on the payment gateway that you choose to have integrated so we would always recommend that you talk to us before making any decisions; our Ecommerce experts can guide you through the options and ensure that you choose a system that provides you with all the functionality that you require.
Customer Account Features
Personalised Welcome Message
When a customer logs back into their account on your website, a message such as Welcome back Name would be displayed on the website. If preferred, a cookie can be placed on the user’s computer when they initially register (with their permission) to allow them to be logged in automatically.
Multiple Billing & Delivery Addresses
Within the customer’s account they can add unlimited billing addresses and unlimited delivery addresses to be used for future orders.
Remember Password Functionality
At each point that the customer is invited to log in to their account, the option will also be there for them to enter their email address to have their password emailed to them.
Customer Order Tracking
When an order has been placed successfully, within the customer’s account their previous orders page will show the date of their order, the products ordered and the status of the order (pending, packing, dispatched). If a tracking number one has been entered through the CMS when the order was processed, the tracking number will also show here.
Wish List
If the wish list functionality is integrated a link on each product page will allow the customer (when logged in) to add a product to their wish list rather than straight to the basket.

Within the customer’s account a list of these ‘favourite’ items will be shown with the ability to delete or move to the basket for purchase.

The wish list functionality does not include a ‘wedding list’ system to allow 3rd parties to view and buy items from an individual’s wish list. This feature can be developed if required – please contact us to discuss your exact requirements.
Search Engine Optimisation
Table-less HTML
Editable Meta Tags
TVI Commerce allows for specific meta details to also be recordered for individual product and category pages.

Re-written URLs
By this we mean taking dynamic URL’s and ‘flattening’ them to create static URL’s.

In practice this means taking a URL that would have been automatically generated (for example when you added a new product to the website through the content management system) and may have a URL that looks something like:

http://www.awebsite.com/product.aspx?productid=15

and automatically converting it to look like:

http://www.awebsite.com/product-15-The_Product_Name.html

this has the benefit of adding keywords to your URL. In addition, from a human browser experience, they look ‘friendlier’ and from a search engine spider viewpoint the more easily accessible structure of the URL may speed up the indexing process.

We use this facility to indicate the type of Ecommerce site we would recommend, based on our experience, that a business would need.

These figures are not set in stone and we do not physically limit any website to a number of products and/or variants – It is possible to run a Starter site with 4000 products however our experience shows that our pro and custom functionality may prove useful when operating larger businesses.

Categories & Sub-Categories
All our sites enable you to add in as many categories and sub-categories as you wish, all through the content management system. This means that you can add a new category to your website whenever required, and add unlimited products to it.
Levels of Sub-Categories
The number of levels of categories that can be shown in the menu structure of your website are limited to the following: Categories and Sub-Categories within the Starter package, Categories, Sub-Categories and Sub-Sub-Categories within the Pro package and, dependant on design, there are no limits within our Custom websites.

Product personalisation
This facility allows for products to be individually given additional options (engraving / gift wrapping etc.) for the customer to select before adding the product to their basket.

For example, to choose for the item to be giftwrapped, adding a name for engraving or uploading an image to be printed on the product.

Options available to be added to each product are:
  • Text
  • Number
  • Yes / No choice
  • Choose from a list of options
  • Image upload
  • File upload


Each option can be marked as required or not and have an additional price (percentage or fixed) associated with it.

For example, a necklace could have the option of entering an initial for engraving (not required and a £5 additional cost if chosen) plus the option of choosing from a list of 3 colours of wrapping paper at no extra cost.
Product Photo Gallery
If multiple images are available for each product we would really recommend that you show them on the website – if a customer can see the product in detail they are more likely to make a purchase.

Each product has a main image which is used all through the site where the product is shown (ie on the category page and in the basket once added) Unlimited additional images can be added to the product page to be displayed as thumbnails that enlarge when clicked on. All product pictures will enlarge when clicked on (assuming the initial image uploaded is large enough) to discuss the best way of ensuring your product photos really sell your stock, please contact us.
Product Variants
Each product can have multiple variants such as size and colour. In theory the number and type of variants are unlimited however we would recommend that, if you have more than three variant types per product or more than 30 actual variants per product (ie small / blue would be one variant), we should discuss the most effective way of displaying these to your customers.

Each variant can, if wanted, have a different product code, description, prices, weight, supplier details, VAT rate and stock level.
Related Product Suggestions
Each product can have unlimited ‘related’ products associated with it. Related products are a useful marketing tool for upselling of products and usually show at the bottom of a product page with a thumbnail image, name and price linking through to the full product details (the end design will determine the exact positioning and information included).
Product Price Breaks
The ability for each product to have a 'price-break' structure, whereby the cost for purchasing one of an item would be different to the item price when purchasing 5 (for example). Both the prices and the 'breaks' are completely customisable for each product and the costs are automatically updated as the customer alters the quantity in their basket.
Additional Information Tabs
If your product information can be divided into sections then you may wish to consider displaying the information in a tabbed system to allow the customers to choose the information they wish to look at.

For example; if selling small electronics, in addition to a product description you may wish to show a list of features, technical specification and provide a downloadable brochure without just displaying everthing in a very long list. A tabbed system can ensure that your visitors can see the information that they require more quickly and without excessive scrolling.
Checkout Integration
Standard Payment Gateway Integration
Standard integration involves the customer entering all their details on the website except their credit card information and being taken from the checkout page to the card processing page to input credit card details in a secure environment.

Depending on the gateway used, the card processing page can be customised to a greater or lesser extent and customers can be returned to your website once the order has been confirmed.

Please talk to us before entering into any agreement with a bank or payment gateway, although all can be integrated we have had many years of working with these gateways and each have specific pros and cons which may influence your final decision.
P&P calculations
Simple Calculation: Our simple P&P calculations allow for one delivery cost to be used on the website. If this is not flexible enough then we would recommend upgrading to the advanced calculation.

Advanced Calculations: This feature means that the delivery cost for an order can be calculated using 3 different variables:
1) The total value of the basket
2) The total weight of the basket (product weights can be set through TVI Commerce)
3) The delivery destination

For example; UK orders over £65 could be delivered free, or all orders to Europe weighing over 5kg cost £25 to deliver

Upgrade to On-site Checkout
Credit card details can also be taken on your own website and passed through to the receiving bank without your customer ever leaving your website.

Using this system will require a compatible payment gateway and SSL certificate (to pass through the information securely) please contact us to discuss the suitable options. On-site payment processing can include 3D Secure if required.

We would usually recommend the on-site processing option simply because of the higher level of control you have over the checkout look and feel. In addition, you have the benefit of keeping the customer on your own website and eliminating some of the occasions where a customer can be lost.

An on-site checkout can also be included on a Starter website if required, just ask us about any upgrade costs.
VAT calculations
Additional ‘fast’ checkout
A fast checkout enables to customer to place an order without having to register on the website.

This doesn't mean that data isn't collected from a customer, just that the information is gathered in the background and a password is automatically generated rather than requested.

The fast checkout works well as a complement to the standard system, although it can be used as a complete replacement if preferred. By using the two in tandem, customers can initially place orders without feeling that they are being asked for any unnecessary information (although we would always recommend that the information asked for was the minimum required to process an order) and once the order is placed they still have the order tracking information available in their automatically generated account, should they wish to access.

Additional Checkout Options
As all our websites are built on our own TVI Commerce platform it is always possible for us to integrate additional checkout options for you.

These may include; multiple payment gateways (ie. PayPal, and Google Checkout plus On-site Credit Card Payment), payment on account and systems for recording cheque or phone orders. Please just ask us how we can best customise our systems to work with your business needs.
Marketing Features
Mailing List
Email addresses can be collected simultaneously through a dedicated newsletter sign-up form on the site and an 'opt-in' field at registration.

Once collected, the sign up details are available to be exported as an Excel file
Discount codes
All TVI Commerce packages allow for unlimited discount codes to be set up.
Each code can be set to be used by a specific customer account or by any customers and be for either a monetary amount or for a percentage discount. Discount codes can also have a set number of redemptions and an expiry date.

For example; a credit note for Customer A can be given for £31.99, to be used only through their account and within 1 year. A promotion running simultaneously allows 10% off all orders between now and 15/12/2009 when entering PROMO10.
Email to a friend
The Email to a Friend functionality allows your customers to send product details directly to a friends email address with a personal message.

The email received will have your website details, the senders name, email & message plus a direct URL to the product being discussed.
Google Product Feed
Google allows merchants to upload their product details directly to Google Base. Products listed here will show in the shopping link on the Google Search page and may show above the natural Google Search listings in the Shopping results for area (top products listed with their prices)

TVI will build you an automatic or manual feed to upload to Google Base including all your products with their details, including the image URL.

Product Suggestions
For up-selling purposes, the website can suggest alternatice or related products to customers, for example; Customers who bought this also bought' suggestions

These suggestions can be set manually by the website owners or selected randomly
Advanced Promotions
Advanced Promotions can be designed to fit with your own business model, however the most common are:

Competition Page
Competition pages can be a very useful source of additional traffic for websites - competitions should be run to promote your products and service to new customers and as an incentive to entice current customers back to the site.

Competition pages are designed to encourage visitors to browse your website (for example to find the answer to a competition question) and to sign up to your mailing list.

Google Analytics
Google Analytics can track all of your referrals, ads, search engine traffic, visitor statistics and website conversions.

We will integrate the basic tracking code with all our websites and can provide you with optional training to make the most of the available features.

Order/Dispatch Processing
When orders are placed and paid for through the website they are automatically added to your open orders area within TVI Content.

From here you can mark each order and item as on order, refunded, cancelled or dispatched. When dispatched, items in an order can be added to multiple packages for delivery, each with their own tracking number and each with a dispatch note.
